Torino - One of Italy's most underrated cities

Torino - One of Italy's most underrated cities

Torino (Turin) was the first capital of Italy, from 1861 to 1865, before it moved to Florence, and now the current capital, Rome.

After living in Torino for three years I've made my opinion on Torino being one of, if not, the most underrated city in Italy. As someone who lives in America, you will never hear of Torino, it's always either, Rome, Milan, or the Amalfi Coast. Maybe some Venice or Naples too. I get it, but let me suggest why Torino makes a great destination to explore when in Italy.

Torino is overshadowed by Milan. However if you're planning to visit Milan, you should include a day trip to Torino in your itinerary. You can get to Torino from Milan in less than an hour with a high speed train, which is a nice experience in itself for first time European visitors.

Once in Torino, there are endless options from enjoying the city's architecture, to relaxing in parks, touring museums, shopping, seeing a Seria A soccer game, or maybe just drinking some coffee and enjoying "la dolce vita" in one of the many plazas Torino has to offer.

Top museums in Torino:

Museo Egizio, one of the most important musuems in the world dedicated to ancient Egyptian civilization, second only to the Egyptian Museu, in Cairo, Egypt in size.

Mole Antonelliana- the iconic landmark of Turin, is also home to the National Cinema Museum. Within the museum there is a panoramic lift that takes visitors to the top of the landmark offering a panoramic view of Torino and the Alps.

Parco del Valentino is Turin's most famous public park. Located along the Po River, it's a popular spot for tourists and locals. Offering plenty of green spaces for picnics, and kiosks for fresh coffee, ice cream, or whatever you desire. There is also the "Borgo Medievale" within the park, which is a reconstructed medieval village with a castle, built in 1884.

For the fashion goers, most assume Milan is the only option for high end luxury. However Torino is home to some high end boutiques such as Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Hermès, and Stone Island.

Overall, Torino has a lot to offer to anyone regardless of your taste. Don't  overlook Torino your next time in Northern Italy
